I just read Margaret’s review below and second all of her comments about the Northwood team. Northwood just did a remodel of a sitting room and very dated primary bathroom to create a large walk-in closet and bathroom/shower that involved moving walls and plumbing. What stands out most is, as Margaret noted, the process and the quality of the work.
Prior to starting the project, owner Bob Benedict and team came out to make sure they understood the area - they wanted to suss out any hidden issues before the project began so they could figure out how to deal with them; then they spent countless (patient) hours with us on design using a computer program that helps you really understand and see how your rooms are going to look - and to make adjustments as needed.
Whitney - our designer - and the firms we used to buy product from then spent dedicated hours helping us with selections. And before the project began, all the materials were in and ready to go. Roger, our project manager on site from start to finish, not only did much of the construction work himself but also addressed our every concern and as Margaret said, oversaw all of their excellent subcontractors (tile, electrical, plumbing, drywall and painting). Roger treated us and our home with the utmost respect. And, of course, we love the finished product and got just what we wanted - a no drama, well-executed, quality remodel.

Northwood's overall approach and process make it stand out from other design-build firms. Firstly, they do not start work until all of your materials are delivered and in their warehouse. As a result, there are no surprise work stoppages because an item is back-ordered or was late in being ordered. Secondly, they have a dedicated project manager for your project during the entire build. From soup to nuts, the same PM will be at your house every day and communicating with you regarding the daily work and upcoming schedule. If a sub-contractor is on-site, your PM will be there facilitating the entire appointment. Thirdly, the quality and professionalism of their sub-contractors is bar none. The electrician is incredible--he is so knowledgeable and really works with the homeowner to troubleshoot potential issues and make sure the final electrical plan really fits the homeowners' needs. The tile installer is an artist. His attention to detail and meticulous cuts really made our backsplash shine. We installed wallpaper on our ceiling and the installers were so gifted. Our house is nearly 90 years old, and the ceilings are not close to being square, but the installers did an amazing job. Finally, the Northwood team are so friendly and genuine you will be sad when the job is finished. It is clear they take a ton of pride in their work and strive to make the remodeling process as smooth as possible.

We wanted a demo and rehab to create a laundry room, mud room, and new guest suite with accessible bath, along with new flooring, painting and electrical work in the house. We interviewed several contractors, were immediately impressed with Northwood – and our instincts were well borne out. Northwood worked with us to determine what we wanted done and at what budget – then promised what they would do – and fully delivered! Northwood’s employees and trusted trade partners were on schedule, produced high quality work, were a delight to have in the house and cleaned up afterward. I wish all companies were as well run as Northwood Construction! From the first step to the last step, everything has been thought out. The owner, Bob Benedict, is professional, friendly, and has considered every possible detail of your project. I recently had my porch refurbished. This is the third project I have done with Northwood. Morgan came out and completed the work in less time than scheduled. Every day Morgan left my property spotless. If I wasn’t home, he would send me photos of the progress so I could keep up with what was going on. If I ever had a question, all I had to do was text and I had my answer within minutes! Morgan had previously done the remodel of my kitchen, two bathrooms, and fireplace so I was thrilled to have him work on this project! His work is impeccable! I have used Northwood Construction for renovations three times over several years: they completely renovated a kitchen when I lived in Reston, and renovated another kitchen when I moved to Leesburg, and did a complete renovation of a master bath. Everything they did was top-drawer, on-time, and well-done. Bob Benedict is a premier designer, providing me with very good ideas and quality materials. Morgan Shorey was project lead, performing most all of the construction and leading very qualified and professional subcontractors. The work was very well done, reliably on time, and professional.
