When does it makes sense to install an elevator in your home? You may ask yourself that question if you plan to age in place or want to make it safer for a loved one to transition between levels. In this case, all of the above applied to our client in Vienna. In addition to their own needs, they wanted their beloved pooch, Fiona, to make it back upstairs. Elevators are not an overnight project. By working closely with the elevator vendor, we took systematic steps to prep the hoistway for measurement to get the elevator ordered, installed and final inspected. One highlight to note about this project was addressing the concerns of claustrophobia. To prevent the feeling of being trapped, we designed a window into the elevator car which was carefully calculated to align with windows of the new addition. Now our clients and Fiona, can enjoy more of their home together.
